I’m ba-a-a-a-a-ack! That’s right, the prodigal son returns. What can I say? Happy New Year?

Yes, I have been gone for a long time but the new monitor has finally arrived. Don’t think of the last four months as hiatus but rather as a winter hibernation. It’s been a late spring but finally the birds are blossoming in the trees and the snowdrops are building their nests.

So, the time off the comic has given me some time to think about my approach to Life on the Fourth Floor and how I could improve the situation. I’ve decided to stop hand-drawing each panel and I’m going to make the comic in Photoshop from now on. I’ve been cartooning my fingers to the bone trying to get a hand-drawn, clean and full-colour strip finished in a week at the same time as working a full-time job and wondering how other people in my position manage to achieve better results on a daily basis. Here’s how: they use Photoshop.

What does this mean for you, the reader? Fourth Floor will change in appearance slightly (cleaner images, more shading, characters that move around, changes in perspective) and I will have more time to focus on the writing (funnier punch lines, coherent plots). I don’t know how regularly the comic will update. As soon as I finish learning how to use Photoshop, I’ll post another strip.

All that remains is to re-build my readership from scratch.
