So a scar-faced whiskey-drinker walks into a bar and the bartender says “Why the long scar?” Wait. That’s not right.

There’s nothing more daunting than starting a new project and this webcomic was no exception. So when I was writing and drawing the very first comics I soon found myself running out of ideas, mostly out of a sense of intimidation.

Anyone can be funny if they have a notepad and unlimited thinking time. But trying to be funny with a gun to your head? Impossible.

That’s writer’s block. The self-imposed gun. It might be paralysis, over-analysis, lack of confidence or an abundance of expectation. The effect is always the same: conditions in which creativity is impossible.

I found my own way round the problem. I wrote about Jack having writer’s block. That must have done the trick, because I’ve never been stuck on what to write for the comic since.
